Furniture Disclaimer
All items sold by Spraydex / The Frog Box are old, reclaimed furniture items. Due to the nature of mid-century furniture; when you are purchasing our furniture, you are buying furniture where woods have mellowed with age and exposure to sunlight. This is part of the unique character of the furniture.
Most of our furniture is made from natural wood and accordingly appearances may vary. While every effort is made to match all colours and finishes, wood is a natural product and there may be variations in colour, grain pattern and shade. Additionally, hand mixing a large batch of paint can sometimes mean that a slight variance might be seen particularly when purchased at a later date, similar to dye batch differences in wallpaper.
Natural Flaws include:
- Air Pockets: small shakes and indentations in paint finishes are perfectly normal and not classed as faults as the paint covering the wood is likely to sink into air pockets.
- Movement: woods will flex over time due to the temperature in its environment; this might cause a small amount of cracking on the joints.
- Natural Wood Colour: varies from tree to tree and an exact colour match for solid wood products cannot be guaranteed.
- Knots: marks where a branch has been cut off when trees are converted into planks. Nutrients in the form of resin may continue to pass through these points for some considerable time, causing ‘bleeding’ through to the surface. This is a natural process and is more noticeable with painted furniture.
- Aged Characteristics: colour variation, nails / nail holes, saw marks, dents / scratches, mortise holes, insect holes, staining, tapering, wane.
Painted Furniture
We paint our furniture in professional grade furniture paint in order to give a better finish and longevity. Every care is taken to ensure a good paint finish is applied through the priming process, rubbing down and application of paint with a spray gun. This is to reduce brush marks and other blemishes.
Paint is normally only applied to the external surfaces of furniture. Internal surfaces will either be plain wood or have a thin coat as too much paint can hinder the runners.
Paint Discolouration can occur with:
- Airborne Particles: cooking / grilling, tobacco staining / smoke, fireplaces or candles.
- UV Exposure: prolonged exposure to natural or artificial light may alter the finish colour, fading of darker colours will occur in direct sun light or overexposure to UV light.
- Moisture: wood and wood-based furniture has inherent inconsistencies in the absorbency of its surfaces, it is inevitable and therefore will result in some colour variations in the finish on painted furniture.
- Temperature: wood is a natural product that responds to temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting, these changes may be noticeable in the physical appearance of the product.
Kitchen Cabinet Disclaimer
Painted cabinetry made of hardwoods should be expected to “move” during the seasons throughout a year. Changes in temperature that naturally occur from season to season, humidity, or prolonged moisture will cause “movement” in hardwood products consequently hairline cracks or “separation” may appear becoming visible over the joint areas.
Like the rest in our industry, Spraydex does not consider an open joint line in the painted finish a defect or a quality issue that is an issue of warranty. Wood may expand and contract differently from cabinet to cabinet; regardless joints within the same cabinet may behave differently. Some joined wood may not show any joint lines, others may be slightly visible, while others may display easily visible joint lines
Spraydex is unable to control the consequences that may develop in one’s home even under normal use in a painted cabinet. The finish will still protect the surface, and the structural integrity of the joint will not be affected yet, exposure to extreme temperature, humidity, and moisture will create open joints in the painted finish.
These issues are shared by every manufacturer in our industry of all wood painted cabinets and are not unique to Spraydex.
